E-Mail Therapy Q&A
How long will it take to get a response via E-Counselling?
I make every effort to reply to your email within 72 hours once payment is received. If you do not hear from me, please contact me again because there may have been a technical difficulty. My email address is wellness@andreaaddington.com
How many email exchanges/sessions would be required?
Some clients require only one email exchange whereas others require more depending on what the issue is. When your therapist replies to your email ( unless otherwise indicated by her) that is considered a session.
Are my sessions and contact information kept confidential?
Absolutely. I do not share your information, except where there is a clear danger to yourself or someone else and as mandated by law. This is covered in the limits of confidentiality form that you would receive prior to starting therapy.
How do I pay for the email session?
You would pay for each email exchange/session via E-Transfer. An etransfer is done via your online banking and only our email addresses are exchanged. Account information is never shared.
Why use E-Therapy?
Reasons why people choose E- Therapy include: not having ready access to a therapist, feeling nervous or embarrassed about therapy (many people are), or a schedule keeping them from getting help in person. In these and other circumstances, E-therapy can be an effective alternative to traditional psychotherapy.
Is E-therapy appropriate for everyone?
Not completely. E-therapy is generally not suitable for you if you currently suffer from severe symptoms of a serious mental disorder. Such conditions as Schizophrenia, Dissociative Disorder, and other serious disorders usually require local face-to-face mental health assessment and treatment. E-therapy does not provide assessment, diagnosis or treatment of such serious psychiatric conditions. E-therapy is also not able to respond to crises such as suicidality, child protection, trauma, domestic violence, or sexual assault. If you feel distress to the point of harming yourself or others, you need to tell someone right away. Contact your local crisis line, family doctor, or hospital emergency department immediately. The E-therapy that I offer is specific to anxiety and self-esteem related issues.
How private is my information?
I will never give your e-mail or personal information to a third party, but remember that privacy on computers and the internet cannot be guaranteed. For example, work or home computers might be accessed by other people. Or e-mails can be susceptible to computer or human errors that result in messages going astray accidentally. So take appropriate precautions and care to ensure confidentiality of your private communications.
Can children and teens use E-Counselling?
A child who is 16 years or under requires parental consent before starting either in person or e-counselling. Discussion with myself and the parent(s) would be necessary to determine if E-Therapy would be appropriate
What is the cost?
You will be required to pay for your first session and each subsequent session in advance via e-Transfer (through online banking). If you chose Email Therapy you will receive one email from your therapist in reply to your concern. The email from your therapist is considered a session as the time to read, reflect and reply to your concerns is alloted a one hour time frame. You will be mailed a receipt for each transaction.
