Andrea herself suffered with Anxiety from the early age of 6. She truly understands the agony that anxiety can cause and she has a real passion for helping other's learn to manage anxiety.
A long time ago anxiety helped our ancestors survive in a dangerous environment. If they detected a Saber-toothed tiger, their worry system would put them on alert and signal them to run. It kept our ancestors alive so they passed it down to us. Worry is actually a form of protection. It keeps you alert and allows you to react quickly to danger which is why we would never be able to eliminate it completely. But we can learn to manage it, significantly reduce it and take control.
The problem is that our worry system doesn’t need to be on high alert all the time. People with anxiety are CONSTANTLY on high alert and seeking out danger even when there is no danger. The sensations of doom or dread or panic felt by sufferers are truly overwhelming--the very same sensations, in fact, that a person would feel if the worst really were happening. This is why people with anxiety are nervous, jittery, seek constant reassurance, don’t sleep well, are often overly self-critical or hypersensitive.
Andrea uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused ( EFT) and Self-Compassion Therapy in her treatment of Anxiety Disorders.
